Bird And Flower Watching In Cairns

Festival activity has finally died down in Cairns. What a wonderful time it has been during winter in the tropics: fun filled days, heavenly spent evenings under the stars on the Esplanade and tourists galore enjoying our diverse region.

Spring heralds warmer weather in Cairns. The beautiful Golden Penda (Cairns official floral emblem - an Australian native of course) are in bloom and the butterflies are everywhere. Wildlife abounds….I even had a native mouse run across my feet. It was so cute and not at all scared of me.

If you love birds or plants, now is the time to visit Far North Queensland. The weather is glorious - neither steaming hot or wet season rainy.

Bird watching in Cairns is as fascinating as a search through a gem shop. We have coastal and island bird life, rainforest and dessert birds visiting, and, if you are really lucky, you may even see a Cassowary.

Cairns Hinterlands (the Atherton Tablelands) offers varieties of plants and bird life unlike that on the coastal far north. The outback, offers even more bird, animal and plant life to enjoy.
